Dear young aspirants, it’s time for strategic actions- @Adetunji1212
Yesterday, we reported how young folks on social media took on the newly appointed spokesperson of President Muhammadu Buhari campaign organization, Festus Keyamo (SAN). First of all, as citizens we need to understand and respect President Buhari’s constitutional right to seek elections in Nigeria. Secondly, we also need to respect Mr. Keyamo’s freedom of voluntary association with any organization or religious group of his choice. After all, Keyamo belongs to APC and has contested for senatorial ticket of Delta State on the platform in the past.
I think it is very unfair to label Mr. Keyamo as a bad person because in actual sense, he is doing what most of the folks on social media are too timid to attempt. He is getting himself involved in whatever he believes in and working day and night for the political aspirant of his choice. Who is your own aspirant/candidate and what are you doing for him/her?
On my weekly #Politics360 show and through this platform, I have engaged at least five (5) credible young persons vying for the top position in Nigeria. I have hosted some of them in the studio and written emails to a few with good responses. However, I found it very palpable that most of them have not started any serious strategies to warrant winning the presidential elections in 2019. Except for Fela Durotoye and Garba Adamu II who had indicated interest in a political party, the rest are still loafing around with keynote speeches, instagram skits and tweetchat. This is why I think young people on social media should get to work rather than criticizing a man who is already putting up a strategy for his election campaign.
Among the new entrants that I have met and interacted with, Omoyele Sowore seems to have a better understanding of politicking in Nigeria. He is putting up a formidable force that the likes of APC needs to watch out for but sadly enough, we cannot associate him with any political party yet. Although, sources say that he might pitch his tent with Social Democratic Party (SDP) which is a viable alternative from PDP and APC.
Prof. Moghalu who understands the economic behaviour both on and the off the shores of Nigeria is playing the elite game with his keynote speeches in Lagos/Abuja. The implication of this is that when the folks in Lekki needs to understand the New York Stock Exchange dynamics, he is their go-to person but the woman in Ajegunle, Ila-Orangun, Sango who sells pounded yam wants to decide her voting preference, Professor will be no where to be found. Same thing for Fela Durotoye.
Who is your campaign Director General?
Who is your campaign spokesperson?
Where is your campaign office across 36 states of the federation?
What is your political structure across 774 local governments in Nigeria?
There are quite a number of young people willing to give you a platform to transform Nigeria but the work needs to start from you.
